(2 min read) The COVID-19 pandemic has made it more important than ever for EMS agency billers and managers to conduct their annual reviews with renewed care and attention, specifically towards to shifting regulations, documentation changes, and new rules for third parties and patients. In this complimentary webinar, Maggie Adams, president of EMS Financial Services, addresses topics that may have been put aside by billers in order to deal with the pandemic. Adams covers topics that can improve processes and cashflows, such as:
One of the greatest hurdles that billers face in financially recovering from the pandemic is accommodating new compliance requirements and adjusting to changes in standing regulations. Failure to tackle these changes or hesitation in doing so could result in financial penalties and lost revenue. Adams offers several solutions for grappling with regulations old and new: reviewing and updating compliance plans, utilizing Office of Inspector General (OIG) documentation, updating training documentation for crews, and more.
Documentation reviews and updates aren’t the only items that billers and managers should account for when doing their “spring cleaning.” Software settings should also be reevaluated, especially as they pertain to facility listings, in order to maximize potential revenue. This includes items relating to current pricing, facility availability, updating listings for new facilities, and ensuring crews have the most accurate and up-to-date software information when transporting new patients.
The pandemic amplified disparities in healthcare coverage, resulting in a significant increase of new Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and third-party payers. With this increase come additional considerations, such as Social Determinant of Health (SDoH), Z Codes, and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) rules.
Third-party and patient-pay claims present additional challenges when conducting billing reviews, but Adams covers these topics in depth in her webinar, including how to code and extract maximum revenue for your business and maximum coverage for your patients.
