Chris Byrd has held several roles at On Time Transport from being an EMT, dispatch manager and currently the manager for high performance initiatives. Under his direction, the agency monitors incidents per 10,000 hours, revenue per vehicle, average price per call, retention and recruitment, and so much more. The data collected by ZOLL RescueNet Dispatch and Billing is used to make internal improvements that are imperative to the agency being able to continue to maintain its high-performance systems. Because of his commitment to high-performance EMS, Byrd is an EMS Pulse Award recipient.
His Story
Byrd measures payroll percentages by department for On Time. He collects revenue data from RescueNet Billing and then data from the payroll company so he can provide up-to-date payroll percentages. Having him do this keeps the agency under the mark to ensure they run lean when it pertains to payroll costs. The daily duties of pulling and analyzing this data is time consuming. He was tasked with looking into the agency’s staffing matrix. It was determined that some divisions where receiving more hours than they needed and others weren’t receiving enough hours to cover the assigned work. He met with the scheduling team, ran a demand analysis and rewrote the playbook on how we should be staffed. This saved the agency on average more than 3 percent in payroll costs resulting in a savings of $420,000.00 in payroll.

He also oversees procurement for On Time. Since last year, he has found ways to save On Time more than $150,000 dollars. He analyzed current purchasing structures and noticed they weren’t obtaining competitive pricing for office supplies, medical supplies, outside vendor costs, etc. He reviewed cellular bills and warranty contracts to ensure they had the best pricing. These savings helped purchase new equipment and vehicles.
